[GB] Volvo B9TL

While the Enviro 400 and Scania N230UD/N260UD swamped the London double decker market, Volvo manage to secure an increasing foothold for its B9TL outside London. One of the earlier customer is Highland Scottish with a batch of 4, which, amazingly, turns out to be the first double deckers they have ordered as new for a good 21 years!

Ditto. You don't run a service for every few minutes for the sake of it. You run it at a certain frequency because it will make money, and there are enough demand to support the service.

DL: It's not that far. I was there for business anyway, and it's just an hour flight from where I am - I don't live in London anymore.

Think this, 142, is a later one actually. But you are right about the first one, 141, though, which is one of the first 2-axle B9TL to be built and entered service.

Actually I think your shot is quite good considering the weather, esp you catch those light bulbs inside the bus. I really like this feature in ELC bodies.

ELC 呢隻燈其實都有用o係香港既捷聯B6LE 上,我以前試過坐E11,個司機上公路之後就剩係開燈膽,都幾浪漫. 不過宜家唔知有冇換到

另外呢架倫敦既 B9......我之前等o左幾日都見唔到,我真係好想睇o下佢,尤其個車尾. 雖然聽聞同其他B7TL 一樣,但係我諗唔通,因為B9 個引擎室好似比B7 既大,如果引擎蓋既size 同B7 一樣,咁咪會太細?
而且我又想睇o下佢左右係唔係大細邊(好似B7TL咁),同埋可以研究呢部B9 係B7TL 底盤上裝一副D9引擎定係新既B9TL 底盤
其實呢部B9 真係幾神秘,搵o左好耐資料想知佢係用乜野引擎同波箱,結果都係得個桔.

First time I saw this lighting was in a London General EVL-class B7TL. It just looks so cool - never though I would see this feature on a modern bus!

You are correct, the body is almost exactly the same as the later batch WVLs, the only Wright-bodied B9TL built as such:

The only thing concede its identity is the additional intake at the offside for the adBlue.

Actually B9TL is, in essence, a re-engined B7TL, except the B9TL no longer has independent suspension at the front axle. Otherwise the chassis is effectively the same, and all Volvo did was moving some bits around (notably the compressor) so fit the D9B engine into the compartment. This B9 uses a D9B-260 engine (standard on 2-axle B9TL) and a Voith D864.5 4-speed transmission.

It depends on when did you try finding it though. If you did that late last year, then you'd never catch it as it was taken away by Volvo for modification since Jun 2007. It returned just before the end of last year, and has since been moved to Putney garage. So if you keep trying to catch it on the 11, you will never find it.
