That can't be a reason. Even though Stagecoach's chairman, BrianSouter, is a significant shareholder of ADL, but at the end of the day,he runs buses as his main business. It make no sense for him tointroduce another type if he doesn't see the need.

In any case, offering the E400 body on the Scania chassis, and likewise the E300 bodywork to the 18.240 chassis, gives themthe opportunity to take a slices of the EGR market, which would haveotherwise gone, by default, to Darwen and Scania instead, without theneed of putting a new engine to the Trident chassis. If they wanted to do the latter option, they could - they trialed a Caterpillar unit on a Trident a couple of years ago. However, the option is always going to be limited, as, apart from Caterpillar, only MAN and Scania produce EGR engines, and they of course have their own products to take care of instead of offering them to one of their mainstream competitors in the UK.
