LDN: Arriva's DLA turned into trainer
A sad moment indeed- here is Arriva's DLA37 which was converted to trainer. many more are to follow- they entered service in 2000!:L:L:Lregards
Yoram and here is DLA37- in happier days as a passenger carrier! 隻色好似KMB白板:lol How is the performance of these DAF DB250?
seems that there are only a few of them running in London in London, there are about 400 of those - alx400 bodied dafs , plus over 130 Wright bodied machinesand just over 100 President bodied machines- all with Arriva..total about 620 d/d buses.
Outside of London, Arriva also bought quite a few DAFs .
The reason why Arriva bought DAFs has to do with commercial ties between the two organisations.
The Dafs are OK- nothing more. a bit underpowered- just like the tridents. the expression we use here : 'gutless'.
The problem now is that Daf/VDL did not develop a suitable chassis/engine combination that would comply with the new Eur 4 and above engine emission standards, so Arriva has no choice but to buy buses from other concerns.

Yoram The reason of it cannot use a bigger engine is it because the chassis design is based on the MCW Metrobus and is not enough room to fit a bigger engine after they have decided to put the radiator at the back? Only 8 years and being converted into a trainer, that is such a shame! They have no choice!
From !st July, the LEZ comes into effect in London; if the vehicle does not meet the standards, then the company has to pay GBP200 each time the vehicle goes into the zone. so they have to withdraw all the old trainers.
most of the trainers will be single decks, but they need some double deck trainers too.
from memory, 9or 11 DLAs would be converted to trainers.
Other companies are doing the same.
Regards
Yoram
