The contract is up for bidding by several consortiums. Connex/Bombardier and MTR/United Group Rail
Connex is hated by Melbournians. Bombardier is reliable, though they don't run the trains so to speak.
MTR is loved by most of the world. However, UGR (Goninan) is hated by the government.
So who do you award the contract to? The industrial action by the drivers against controllers is potentially illegal, according to the federal Workplace Ombudsman. Serve them right, stupid and lazy Aussies. :lol
For those who live in the utopian Hong Kong, industrial actions affecting hundreds of train service are unheard.

There is an exception, Hong Kong.
Spoiled people over there think MTR offers one of the world's worst train service.
