Some ordinary people thought they boarded a new bus when the number plate of a Trident is beginning in L or even K!
Compared to "white dogs" which are still around, these are new anyway.
But for MTR trains, M-stock are currently the oldest passenger trains in HK.
There are nothing older that are still in service, and there are a lot of newer trains;
so any comment of them being "new" is the result of "not knowing" ("ignorance" seems too serious).

基本上地鐵呢家野，係每個城市有自己的spec，新定舊都好難二手畀人，

我所知的唯一例子只有倫敦Tube運過去Isle of Wight。
