LDN: Wright's volvo B9L enters service

In recent months, First, Go Ahead and Metroline ordered over 100 Wright bodied volvo B9L d/ds- following the lifting of the 'ban' on ordering them because of noise problems.

On Monday, 4 new 'weevils' entered service from NX garage on route 21.

Here is wvl282 on route 21 on the first day, taken at Borough high street.

There are 4 such buses in service on route 21

I am not sure whether Volvo managed to get a rid of the noise problem but for sure those 1-2yrs old B9TL running in HK has got similar problem with the B7TL in England.

Some of thevolvo B7Ls in London are being refurbished, and have an 'engine upgrade.modification'.
This includes an extra gear, some noise insulation and modifications to the engine and fan.
I do not know exactly how it works, but, so far, it seems to have done the work!

as you day, time will tell!:lol    but it did convince London Buses.

Those in HK have the same radiator as the B7TL. The 2-axle B9TLs in Britain has a different radiator which sounds very different and much quieter. In any case, the noise issue seems to have gone away and the ban was formally lifted last year.

summykam: That, apparently, is one of the weight-saving feature adapted by Wrightbus to cut the weight down.

梯位果兩隻 windows 低左 d 係就返入要果個空調機, 不過其實比起香港的空調巴士,果個真係叫左冷風機, 我搭過一隻仲要係得一邊有"冷氣出風口" d 人又可以開窗, 作用真係有限~

最尾個隻窗咁嘅樣只係因為wright公司'改良'左,相信與冷風機無關...

但同公司有一批wright/b7l(好似係最後一批)上層右邊同樣有冷風機,但第二同三隻窗則依然與沒有冷風機的車一樣,沒有不同...

相信可能是用不同品牌的冷風機,經改良過厚度的冷風機所致...

如果第二同三隻窗無低d的話,你可以隱約睇到冷風機係'slim'左...

Excluding recent retrofits, only 20 of the preultimate batch of WVLs(192-211) were fitted with the air cooling unit, and they all have the smaller windows.

Those without the smaller windows are examples which have been retrofitted with the unit recently. None of their final batch (WVL212-273), as far as I know, are fitted with the system.
