CUTA Trans-Expo 2010 (14 Photos!)
Canadian Urban Transit Association's annual conference / Trans-Expo took place at the new Convention Centre West in downtown Vancouver yesterday, drawing all major transit equipment manufacturers across the country to attend, along with their fancy demonstrator vehicles and products!I will selectively post some of my photos from yesterday's event.
New Flyer, one of the most prominent transit bus manufacturer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is proud to show their latest product, the Xcelsior branding series! The blue demonstrator is powered by GM-Allison parallel hybrid drive using a Cummins ISL engine, while the green demonstrator is powered by BAE series hybrid system using a Cummins ISB engine.

Neither did Alexander-Dennis has anything overly exciting to show off this year...........BC Transit Enviro 500 Hybrid #9527, the maintenance record of this bus is highly comparable to KMB's APM1, spends more days sitting at the garage than actually running in revenue service! :lol

Nothing particularly interesting when it comes to coaches this year..........everything was way too expectable.

What's wrong with 9527 anyway?
No hope on Translink trialling deckers in revenue service like OC Transpo? 原帖由 iczer3 於 2010-11-18 04:33 發表 http://hkitalk.net/HKiTalk2/images/common/back.gif

I am really not too sure about what's actually wrong with 9527............all I really do know are based on two main observations: Last year, this bus spent a good 5-6 months sitting at Cullen Diesel facilities in Surrey, BC. When buses end up at a heavy-maintenance facility as such, it usually means there's a major defect that needs to be repaired with specialized mechanical parts. After it returned to Victoria in around February or March this year, this bus sat on the BO track (where defective buses wait for maintenance work in the garage) in Gorge Road Garage for most of the time, occasionally assigned to run in revenue service. A friend of mine who lives in Calgary came out to BC twice last year, hoping to catch 9527, and never was able to because both times, the bus was sitting dead in the garage. :P Therefore, I guess the reason I drew my reference to KMB's APM1 is because I had never seen the bus on the road during the past summer when I was visiting, because it was grounded in Yuen Long Depot! :L
Translink testing double deckers...............if there's hope, it wouldn't be something that takes place anytime soon, mainly due to the current constraints on budget for transit expansion after the Olympics, and the fact that the current fleet of high-capacity articulated buses is not expected to go through retirement for at least another 3 years, since the oldest articulated buses currently active were built in 1998. Of course, I really would like to hope our dreams of seeing Translink Enviro 500s running through the streets of Vancouver will become reality someday in the future! :loveliness:
