與香港緣慳一面的雙層巴士車款 -- Bristol VRT (多圖注意)
Bristol 呢個名字, 相信對香港嘅部份巴士愛好者嚟講可能會比較陌生,事實上除左城巴喺 1981 年引入一部二手嘅前 Eastern National Bristol Lodekka FLF 雙層巴士之外,
香港嘅巴士公司亦未曾引入過 Bristol 出品嘅巴士喺香港行走,
今日收到嘅 Bristol VRT, 更係從未喺香港出現過。
喺 1950 年代中開始, 因為 Leyland Atlantean 同 Daimler Fleetline 先後出現,
加上 1960 年代英國政府大力提倡一人控制嘅巴士運作模式,
促成英國巴士市場上對後置引擎巴士有較大需求,
Bristol 於是順應市場需求, 喺 1960 年代中研發全新嘅後置引擎巴士底盤,
並且命名為 VR (即係 Vertical Rear, 垂直後置引擎),並且可以選配 Gardner 6LX 或者 6LW,
或者 Leyland O.600 引擎, 放置於車尾右側, 使用縱向排列, 連接 SCG 四前速半自動波箱, 驅動後軸,
其後因為呢個設計問題多多, 於是喺 1967 年設計出改良版本, 將引擎改為橫置式,
同 Leyland Atlantean 同 Daimler Fleetline 嘅設計一樣, 但係冷卻水箱就放喺車頭,
呢個時候亦命名為 VRT, 當中 T 就係 Transverse, 指引擎係橫放嘅意思。
Bristol VRT 標準上配上合作已久嘅 Eastern Coach Works (ECW) 車身,
亦有部分用家係使用 Walter Alexander 同 East Lancashire 提供嘅車身,
當中 ECW 車身嘅 VRT 亦有分三代, 主要係第一代嘅平頭設計,
第二代嘅弧型車頭設計, 同埋第三代改良版, 主要係車頭鬼面罩同車尾引擎位嘅設計。
Bristol VRT 可以話係當時英國 National Bus Company (NBC) 旗下公司嘅 "標準化" 雙層巴士車款,
雖然生產總數唔及前輩 Atlantean 同 Fleetline 多, 但係直到 1981 年共十多年嘅生產期內,
亦總共出左 4400 多部 VRT 之多, 同時當時已經兼有 Bristol 同 Daimler 嘅 Leyland,
喺 1970 年代末開發全新嘅雙層巴士車款, 即係後來人所共知嘅 Olympian,
可惜同時亦代表住 Bristol 品牌嘅終結。
今日收到嘅呢架 Bristol VRT, 係 EFE 嘅新模,
而且係 EFE 第一款使用一件過倒模方式嘅巴士模型, 同以往上下層分開倒模唔同,
真車係服役於 Ribble Motor Service, 而且已經喺 1992 年肢解,
Ribble 嘅棗紅色車身已經夠吸引, 加上以前亦有儲開 Ribble 嘅巴模,
呢部新模型亦成為在下心水之一, 對上一次入 EFE 新巴模已經係兩年多前嘅事,
如今呢架新車正好為在下喺依家心情仲未完全平復嘅時候暫時分分心...
