I reckon it was the latter. 1954 300SL Gullwing was a true legend and classic. As compare to SLR McLaren only available in Left Hand Drive and can't use on HK road everyday, which is not a true legend. The design studio was in UK and it's a very expensive fee applied to the price tag.
