Proposal for rearranging KMB routes between Kowloon East and Sha Tin

1. Introduction
As the SCL is going to start service in 2019, some bus routes between Kowloon East(especially Wong Tai Sin District) and Sha Tin District may risk lowering their number of passengers. So, the following suggestions are proposed to improve bus service between Kowloon East and Sha Tin.
2. Suggestions for routes from Wong Tai Sin District(82P, 82X, 84M, 85M, 286M)
It is suggested that Route 82X will be merged into Route 84M as Route 82X is torturous and it needs to pass through Siu Lek Yuen and Kwong Yuen to City One Shatin, which will be slower than the MTR after the opening of the SCL. At the same time, Route 84M will enhance its frequencies to every 5-7 mins and all of its ATSE buses will be moved out of the route to enhance capacity. This route will remain in its original route. Secondly, Route 82P will still remain, but will change its route number to 82 and enhance full-day service with 15-minute intervals using 8 ATENU and 3ASV buses(the 3ASV buses will be replaced by ATENU or AVBWU when they are phased out) so that there will be no affection for bus service to Kwong Yuen Estate. The route will follow its existing AM service route. Thirdly, 85M and 286M will be merged into 286(Kam Ying Court to Wong Tai Sin(Circular)) to even the frequencies of the 2 routes to the Ma On Shan area. It will follow the 85M service route towards Diamond Hill and then follow the 286M service route to Ma On Shan Centre and then the reverse of the 85M route to Kam Ying Court.
3. Suggestions for routes from Kwun Tong District(80/80P, 80X, 83A/83X, 88X, 89, 89D, 89X, 89C, 89B)
Firstly, it is suggested that Route 80P will be enhanced to full-day service and will change to 80A,while the current 80 will be changed to 80B and follow its AM service route, while 2 routes will share 30 buses and have 1+1 frequencies during departure from Kwun Tong Pier. The newly-opened Hin King Station will have some passengers giving up to take 80 and decided to move to the MTR instead, so lessening services via Hin King can reduce the crowdedness of Route 80B buses. Secondly, Route 89B will be shortened to Chun Shek, while Route 80X will be shortened to Kwun Tong Railway Station.Under the shortened route, Route 89B and 80X buses will have a through service, so residents of Sha Tin Wai and Chun Shek areas can choose any of the 2 tunnels to reach Kowloon. Both routes will share 24 buses and run at 10-minute intervals. Thirdly, Route 83X will be cancelled and Route 83A will enhance to full-day service, in which the former will be replaced by interchange discount between 89 and 83K. The 5 buses of 83X will be moved to 83A, so it can run at 10-minute intervals with 8 buses to let Shui Chuen O residents to have a more convenient way to reach Kowloon East. For the other routes, 89X will be merged into 89 to offer a quicker service to Sha Tin Town Central, and 89C will be cancelled and replaced by 89>85K. 89D and 88X will remain the same.
4. Conclusion
It is hoped that the above suggestions will be considered.
