Casino, not just international student problem, but that's a problem among Chinese population over 18, especially in WA, whenever you go, you can see Cantonese gambling in Casino, they even have Cantonese ad on English TV for Freedies Club and Casino...

This is so true for us too, I've been in WA for 10 years, and what worst, is that ABC thought that we are not as Americanize as they are, and HK people thought that we are outdated...(infact, that's not the case, cause alot of the immigrants around my age (living for at least 5-10+years) read and write better Chinese and English then those HK internation students around the same age..)

Well, in US it's 16 years old, basically (for locals) if you are over 16, the school gives you 100% power to decided important matters.  Infact, When i was still in HS, I've sign a waver @ highschool @ 16 that I will not allow the school to disclosed any of my info to anyone without my permission, even my parents cannot interfer.  And if you are over 16, basically the permission slip for field trips or what so ever, can be sign by ourselfs and return to instructors, same as report cards...

As an old immigrant, all I can say is that if you wanna learn better english, listen to local radios and watch TV, stop listen to 903 or whatever online, tune to the local talk/news stations, (infact, i only listen to HK radio @ nigh, at day time, i listen to local stations, cause I wanna know what's happening around me in my community.  Also, do some volunteer work! I don't know what so hard about doing volunteer work, Me and couple of local and international student (Chinese) does volunteering around the Seattle area year around.  If you wanna be competitive in either HK or at the States, then you have to do some volunteer, because this will help widen you horizon and helps you assimilate to the majority society..rather then hiding in Chinatown with the Chinese for you remaining years.  Besides, employers do not just look at you grade, but also you other experiences.

Well, good point HSU, as if the Thread starter really doesn't like Chinese, maybe he should do what I'm going to do after December, live in a town where there's only 15 Chinese, (5 are local resident, and the others are students coming from across state) then you will learn what is lonelyness and discrimination.  Especially in a 99% White farming community where posting a John Kerry banner can cause your car's window to be broken, and at the town you won't see an African American.  (the less then one percent are other race...which 80% is Mexican legal or illegal workers, then a few Japanese student).  That town is call Ellensberg Washington....

PS: there's no bus/Taxi services in town, and even if it does, it will run from 9-5, and not saturday/ sunday services.

Unlucky, my roomates are Chinese...
I want to leave them alone but if I ignore them are very rude,
I remember one day was a holiday,
I walked to the train station and I missed a train,
few minutes later, Chinese people came, and they smoked,
and annoying to me, I ignore them, then the train arrived,
I got on to the train, they haven't got any seat upon the train,
only me had a seat, then I open my latop and heard some music,
to the next station,
they said I need to change another train(of course he was lie).
That day I was so tired, I was so silly and turn it off,
after I known, I want to swear to them,
When I arrived,
I just ignored them and jump out of the train...

Most Boarding School/ Private School in UK takes age 17-18 as the measures.

Sounds to me that its nothing to do with hanging around with Chinese in response to your topic, I think its down to the personality and your relationship with your schoolmates.

In this case, you have mislead us into the discussion at the 1st place. You didn't explain the current relationship between you can your chinese schoolmates, have you ever think about why people picking on you?

Lets not talk about smoking, as you process through your education in the UK you will know smokers doesn't mean bad people (I am not a smoker either), it is not a good habit but doesnt mean all smokers are bad.

you are right,but I don't like them because I don't want to follow them,
now I always try to talk with my English friends, but Chinese people will think I am silly,
now I just want to alone and study more English, so move out is the best way to avoid me to like this... Accually, I don't know why Chinese people always stay together,
go to abroad should be study another langage and join them. Now I am so unhappy my roomate are Chinese people, I'd rather it was like one year before, all need to speed English...

I must say you have misjudge the importance of socialisation, there is no way to go either side and ignore the rest in a boarding community. At the end of the day you will become a loner when the English people left you on your own, I am not saying you have to become part of the Chinese Community right now but you should be as friendly as you can to them even though they are being difficult to you. This is a simple manner and socialising skills!

If they think you are being silly talking to English people, then you should prove yourself and try to change their mind, in fact it is silly to ignore the others just because you want to learn more English. ( I am not using the word STUDY as study the English is not just the language, also their culture, behaviour, society etc. As you are living in the United Kingdom, I encourage you to study the Welsh, Scottish and Irish as well, they have much interesting stuff for you to study!)

Again, learning English through the way you mentioned is not going anywhere further. I have been living in this country for nearly 6 yrs and if I am you I will go outside and get involve the local community for start.

Not a particular good suggestion but BBC Comedy <<Little Britain>> is the one you should see, although it is a comedy (a rude and mean one) but it includes a lot of context of people in Britain. It is worth to watch but if you take our advice seriously, I sure you will find your way to a brighter future very soon.
