[GB] Stagecoach returns to London

After selling their London operations 4 years ago, Stagecoach has reacquired the operations from Australian investment bank Macquarrie for a net expense of £52.8M. The value is less then 25% of what Stagecoach received when it sold the business to Macquarrie.

Oh, so they gained from this sell and buy back exercise I suppose.
Good to see them taking the operation back in possession, I don't believe Macquarie Bank was interested in any part of their core business at all. |

Macquarie bought it because they thought they could make a profit by selling it on in the future, which obviously didn't work out. Stagecoach pulled out in 2006 not because the business was unprofitable, but more because of a lot of constraints imposed by TfL, which Stagecoach don't like. I'm not surprised that they return to London really, it is a high profile market, and with the right price, why not? |
