No surprise in any case, ADL has by far the most complete product line on offer in the UK, whilst the rest of their main competitors don't - Volvo and Scania don't have any presence in the midibus market, nor do Optare in the double decker (bar the odd Olympuses), and Wrightbus only start dipping their toe onto the midibus market themselves.
The most important factor is they have such a firm grip in the London market - where most of the orders come from nowadays, with the E400 accounting for half of the double decker intake, whilst the E200Darts pretty much took the whole London single decker market to its own like the Dart used to. Scania, having its largest London backer, ELBG bought out by Stagecoach and in turn switched to the E400s pretty much by default, was bound to suffer badly for the effect. It is also not helped that it is increasingly losing out in the large single decker market - the only other market sector which it was strong - to the B7RLE, which seems to finding itself even more popular lately.
Although the E400H contributed significantly, it is far less decisive than the London factor. With Stagecoach firmly backing the E400s in London, and the likes of Arriva, First, Metroline and Go-Ahead happy taking the type alongside the competing types, it's market position is secure. Likewise for the E200Dart, unless the Streetlite somehow makes a breakthrough, but I don't see it happen, not any time soon anyway. |
