I had the privilege of visiting Myanmar back in the beginning of March, and spent a couple of hours onboard the Circular Train in Yangon, the largest city and former capital of Myanmar! Based on Wikipedia, the Circular train (as suggested by the name) loops around the entire Yangon and nearby townships, stopping at 39 stations over a distance of 45.9km.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yangon_Circular_Railway

The circular train loop requires approximately three hours to complete, costs $1 USD (foreigners must show passport when purchasing tickets), it's a very nostalgic way to get a glimpse of the daily lives of the Burmese lower-middle class citizens! Please feel free to pose any questions that you may have in mind....but otherwise, I will proceed right to the photos!

I will begin with a couple of landscape photos captured along the train ride, and I will wrap up with photos of trains in Yangon!

And so the journey begins.......

Inside the passenger cabin, the local Burmese people LOVE to interact with foreign visitors........they are your source of entertainment, and you are also their entertainment, it's a win-win relationship! There are food and drink vendors that will constantly hop on and hop off, selling all kinds of snacks from plain water to deep fried munchies to betel leaves (tobacco) and fruits. The Burmese also use the Circular Train for transporting their crops and goods to the markets along the route.

Finally, here are the pictures of trains in Yangon! I am not very familiar with the makes and models, but I am assuming some of these trains are second-hand from Japan?

Finally, last but not least, here's a video recorded onboard the Circular Train, all aboard and have fun!

I have made a separate post for buses in Myanmar under the B5 section, feel free to check it out!
ENjoy!

Dave
