First has announced a £46 million order with Wrightbus for 295 buses for delivery throughout 2007 and 2008. The order is split between 253 Eclipse Gemini bodied double deckers on Volvo's new B9TL chassis, and 42 Eclipse-bodied single deckers on Volvo's new B7RLE chassis.
The order demonstrates First's on-going commitment to new fleet investment, working in partnership with vehicle manufacturers and local authorities to deliver improved service delivery and increased levels of customer satisfaction.
Nicola Shaw, Managing Director, First UK Bus, comments: "By January 2007 we will have switched the majority of our bus fleet to run on either biodiesel or zero sulphur diesel. This significant order with Wrightbus will see the introduction of buses fitted with Euro 4 engines. This combination of cleaner fuels and lower emissions is a clear demonstration of our commitment to investing in greener vehicles, helping to reduce our carbon footprint and positioning public transport as a socially responsible alternative to the private car."
Chairman of the Wright Group, William Wright, said: "This is another highly significant order from First and a major endorsement for our product strategy at the Euro 4 changeover. It continues a strong and deep relationship with staff at many levels of our respective organisations and also reflects well on the quality of our products and the industry of our people at Ballymena."
William Wright also paid tribute to Volvo Bus who have worked in close partnership with Wrightbus on both this and previous vehicle orders with First. "The excellent support we have received from Volvo - both now and in the past - has allowed us to jointly ensure that every vehicle that is delivered and enters into service with First meets with their expectations."
Vehicles fitted with Euro 4 engines achieve improved environmental benefits with extended service intervals, 30% reduction in emissions of nitrogen oxides, 80% reduction in particulates and the expectation of improved fuel consumption through the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.

Interesting news, Norris. This is a major boost to Volvo in particular because the B9 has been completely
outsold by the Enviro 400 lately, particularly in London. I just read that Lothian also placed an order of 50
B9TL/Gemini and 5 B7RLEs for delivery in 2007.
Interesting observation to the new rear of the Gemini, it's the first time I saw the design. I think that by
being able to move the lower rear window back to the middle, and using bonded glazing, it gives a fresher
and more modern look to the body, which I think still look stunning 5 years after it was first unveiled. |

Yes the new B9TL has a improved Wright body and the headroom has a slight improvement as well.
The new B9TL is an environmentally friendly vehicle and can be up to Euro 5 standard by adding the Adblue (Urea).
