Stop Press: Alexander Dennis buys Plaxton- from RouteOne Magazine

'In a shock deal bringing a trio of famous PSV manufacturers into the same fold - again -three of the best known names in the British industry - Alexander, Dennis and Plaxton - joined forces this week to establish a powerful new force in the coach and bus sector.

The acquisition of Plaxton Holdings Limited by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) creates Britain's biggest coach and bus manufacturing operation and is designed to consolidate the market-leading status of both companies in the UK - and to provide a platform for entry into new European and global markets.Alexander Dennis and Plaxton will operate largely on an autonomous basis and all of the key players in the Plaxton senior management team will remain in the company.

Plaxton will continue to operate and sell under its own brand. The deal, involving an undisclosed sum, comes exactly one month after Colin Robertson took over the reins as Chief Executive at ADL, declaring then that he would be disappointed if the company did not "double its present size, at a minimum, within five years."
