LDN: Ibus project goes on...

Hello,
All buses in London would be fitted with the 'iBus' system.
This is an automatic system announcing the next bus stop, and where the bus is going.
Transdev buses are undergoing this conversion; but as they do not have enough spare double deck buses, they have borrowed 7-8 tridents from First.
First in London have many spare dobule deck buses, as they lost quite a lot of work in recent months.
The first stop of those hired buses was S garage [Sheperd's Bush] where they created the float for S and V buses being converted to Ibus.
Now the batch has moved on to FW [Fulwell garage].
here are two photos: showing route 281- operated by FW garage:
1 a reapinted Trident from transdev, showing the new red colour, the new standard blinds for the route, and the air ventilation pod on the upper deck.
2. a loaned TN32961 seen at Twickenham Grove - showing autumnal leaves. |

yes, this is the 'ibus' system! I think it is very similar to the one used by KMB in HK....
The announcements are automated. the bus driver inserts the code of where he is going, and on which route, and the system would select the correct recording.
The 'iBus' project also includes ensuring that each bus stop has a unique identification [usually a name of a road], and that all operators use the same script and a standard name for each location.
an example for that is : tottenham court road , which also appeared sometime as Centrepoint/New Oxford Street.
now, all bus companies must show 'Tottenham Court Road' for this destination; this will also be part of the recording on the bus.
regards

a new standard for the blinds again?
did TfL abandoned the previous standard of just showing the destination of the route? |
