LDN: East LDN rail routes: new E400 -First

Hello,
On Saturday, the East London Line underground line was closed for about 3 years for extension.
Three new routes were created to replace the rail line: ELP ELC and ELW.
[route ELS already operates to replace a part of the line closed last summer].
The main interest lies with First in London:
They have bought their first new double deck bus since 2005, and two E400 tridents were bought.
They serve on route ELW [Whitechapel to Wapping], but the route requires 6 buses, so current trident presidents
[the TN class] are used as well. in June, the rest of the order [41 E400] would arrive.
Routes ELC and ELP were won by Travel London, using refurbished Tridents, made spare by the loss of route 157
last year. 13 buses are required for both routes.
so, here is DN3500- the E400 on route ELW in Shadwell. note the special rail advert and the nearside non standard red blind!
TN33247 is shown loading up at Shadwell.
Route ELP with a bus on route ELC in the background is shown leaving canada water station [still served by the Jubilee line].
With the very best wishes,
merry Xmas and a happy new 2008!

ELS should be the route running between Shoreditch and Whitechapel, right? |

The East London Line used to run- from South to North:
New Cross or New Cross Gate, then Surrey Queys then Canada Water [this section is covered by bus route ELC], then Rotherhithe[ this is covered by route ELP] then cross the river to Wapping, then Shadwell terminating at Whitechapel [wapping to whitechapel section covered by ELW].
Up to 2006, there was a section between Whitechapel and Shoreditch, which was closed earlier- this is covered by single deck route ELS.
The 4 routes: ELC ELS ELP ELW would operate till the East London Rail [the name of the new line replacing the current line] would reopen in 2010. |
