Routemastes in the wilds of Windsor

Here is RCL2260 standing at Saville Garden serving route 718.

RCL2260 is the coach version of the routemaster, and the batch of 43 RCLs was built in 1964-5 for service on the Green Line network of express routes crossing London.
The buses had different engines, better springs and seats and doors.
ECL2260 is owned by Blue Triangle, and is rarely used in public service.

First berkshire run route 702 between Victoria, Slough, Windsor and Bracknell.
On Sataurdays [till the end of August] the 1100 departure from London is duplicated by a routemaster [usually RM613] which runs as far as Windsor, and then it does two trips on route 718 from Windsor to Saville Gardens on the edge of the Royal Park- a lovely spot for visiting!

The special one day fare on the routemaster is GBP10.

Route 341 :

The extra 4 buses used on short journies in the peak produced some interesting buses:
I already showed the Denis Lance, the denis plaxton verde [see previous msg], and now here is the lynx mark 2:

This bus is allocated to First London for work in Harold Hill and Cranham on school bus 646, and this is the first time it worked in central London.

Most of those Lynxes are now being withdrawn from service; as a matter of fact, the lynx model was not so successful, as, just as it was being produced, the denis dart came along!

Is this coach still serving rail replacement rt. B now?

Had it not been for the Leyland Lynx, there would never of been a Volvo B10B.
The chassis of the B10B is near enough exactly the same of the lynx, just volvo changed the engine to a THD102 series.
Effectivley the Volvo B10BLE is a low floor lynx ;)

The Lynx actually have a few years headstart to the Dart - it was developed
in the mid-80s, but the Dart did not come along until 1989. It's sales record
was a result of the uncertainty of deregulation, as pointed out in the recent
issue of BUSES Focus. Even so, more than 1,000 were sold, not bad when
considering how few operators dared committing themselves to any full size
single decker at its first 4 years in production!
