FERRY FLEET ALMOST COMPLETE

THE LAST OF AUSTAL’S FOURTEEN 47.5 METRE
PASSENGER CATAMARANS FOR HONG KONG

OPERATOR VENETIAN MARKETING SERVICES
LIMITED (VMSL) ARE NEARING COMPLETION
LESS THAN TWO YEARS SINCE CONSTRUCTION
OF THE FLEET BEGAN.

The speed at which the high speed ferries have been
constructed underlines Austal’s powerful construction
capabilities, which have been further bolstered through
the recent introduction of Advanced Shipbuilding (ASB)
techniques.

Aimed at improving efficiency and productivity, the
introduction of ASB methods has resulted in increased
modular construction and the automation of specific
construction tasks across Austal’s shipyards worldwide.
Whereas global shipbuilding has been characterised
by lack of capacity in recent years, Austal's large
facilities, skilled workforce and continual improvement
in production techniques enables the company to
continue to offer short delivery times, even for large
projects.

The VMSL “CotaiJet” vessels are the first vessels to fully
incorporate ASB methods, with Austal’s ability to meet
a demanding delivery schedule a key factor in it being
awarded the contract in 2006.

Ten of the Austal-built CotaiJets are already operating
along the Hong Kong to Macau route, performing
more than 60 sailings each day.

Upon completion of the current VMSL order, Austal will
have delivered 52 vessels to the China / Hong Kong
waters alone.

SHUN TAK JOINS AUSTAL CLUB

PROMINENT HONG KONG FERRY OPERATOR
SHUN TAK-TURBOJET HAS JOINED THE EXTENSIVE
LIST OF COMMERCIAL OPERATORS WITH AUSTAL
VESSELS.

In October, the ferry operator purchased two Austal
47.5 metre passenger catamarans from fellow Hong
Kong operator New World First Ferry (NWFF).

Initially ordered by NWFF in 2007, the two
passenger catamarans are based on a proven
design optimised for service speeds in excess of
42 knots and the comfortable carriage of 418
passengers with high quality passenger amenities.

The vessels, which were built at Austal’s Tasmanian
shipyard and delivered to NWFF in September,
further expand Shun Tak–TurboJet’s current fleet of
31 high-speed passenger vessels.

Shun Tak Holdings Limited Managing Director Pansy
Ho's speech at the 2008 Interferry conference
explained that the two new Austal catamarans
would allow them “to continue to serve the general
market with a more cost effective structure, in
particular reduced fuel cost per trip.”

Shun Tak-TurboJet is the main operator on the Hong
Kong to Macau route - a route which attracted more
than 17 million passengers in 2007.

Austal's Tasmanian shipyard is currently building
three 22 metre, 25 knot catamarans which are
scheduled for delivery in 2009.
