The Excel, esp. the Mk.1 version, is notoriously unrealiable, and they suffer massive issue on rattling. Many of the 1st time buyers have had the type withdrawn from service after running them for as little as 5 years. Most of them got sold on, but I'm not surprised that a few, like this one, are being scrapped so early (Persumably to salvage some parts).

The Olympian in the picture may not necessary be those from Stagecoach Manchester. Some other 12m Olympians are also shipped to UK for operators other than Stagecoach.
