[IRL] Dublin Bus B9TL/E400

After taking the first batch of tri-axle B9TL, it is hardly a surprise for Dublin Bus to take up the 2-axle version of the type. Sticking with the Volvo/Alexander (and its successors) combination, the first of the 100 EVs - B9TL/Enviro 400 - entered service from 2007 onwards.

The whole batch are built to the shorter length, a little over 10.3m,than the 600+ strong fleet of B7TLs they took up previously. In fact, they are a little shorter than a standard E400-bodied B9TL.

The differences is down to a key feature of these buses - the more raked windscreen specially specified by Dublin Bus to reduce glare and reflection. The end result was the front overhang is slightly reduced, making a much promoted feature on the E400 body - those seats on the front wheel arch, impossible to fit. This have a knock on impact in terms of seat count as well - 3 less comparing to the B7TL/ALX400s. However, the overall capacity actually increase - thanks to the 6 additional standing space.

Continuing Dublin Bus' policy to hire buses out for wedding, 3 EVs are painted in overall white in the Wedding Bus livery:

Although Dublin Bus turned to Wrightbus for the latest order for the B9TLs, it's not quite the end for the E400 body though - In fact, as a major departure of their vehicle buy, 50 integral E400s are expected some time this year.
