富豪收購利蘭幾問+奧林匹克幾問??

點解富豪會收購利蘭??
利蘭財政是不是有問題??
富豪是不是1988年收購利蘭??
AL當時其實算是利蘭車,定算是富豪車?
因為大部份AL都是在1988年後生產
利蘭當時除了生產奧林匹克外,有沒有生產其他巴士??
點解富豪只是要奧林匹克一款車款??
是不是有其過人之處呢??
利蘭奧林匹克和富豪奧林匹克底盤上有什麼分別呢??

1. 聽講富豪1988年收購利蘭o既原因
係因為英國公營巴士服務私有化前後,
市場對新巴士需求減少,而令利蘭方面感到前景暗淡...

2. 利蘭俾富豪收購之時,仲有生產以下巴士(唔計奧林匹克),
但多數都因為富豪有類似產品而被取代:
Leyland Lion (中置引擎) -> Volvo B10MD (Citybus)
Leyland Lynx (後置引擎) -> Volvo B10B
Leyland Swift (中置引擎)
Leyland Tiger (中置引擎) -> Volvo B10M

富豪o係蘇格蘭 Irvine 開新o既生產線o黎
取代利蘭o係英國 Workington o既生產線
(中間有段過渡期)之後, 所生產o既都跟足
利蘭時代設計o既奧林匹克, 不過, 成架底
盤中有六成零件係由富豪提供, 包括錶板,
驅動軸同電器線路.

另 Irvine 廠房富豪早o係三至四年前摺o左.

如果倫敦運輸局唔係要放棄前置引擎Half-Cab巴士0既話
利蘭集團仲有意圖去試作'亞特蘭大'呢款怪巴士嗎?
(怪在上層座位一排過...)
另外,利蘭0既Fleetline系列又會唔會在倫敦運輸局唔出一句聲0既情況之下
出現呢一批DMS倫敦珍寶(度身訂造版本...)
多到連當年香港各大小巴士公司'都有幾架晌車廠'咁利害呢?

不過,自從Fleetline同Titan晌一手巴士市場之上慘淡收場之後
恐怕各位都明白,倫敦運輸局0既營運方式
已經追唔上英國當地0既巴士服務需要...
進而當然出現0既私營化0既局面...
利蘭牌雖然仍然存在,不過已經變成富豪集團之下另一個牌子而已
雙層巴0既奧林匹克照賣可也,單層巴當然係由旗下牌子取而代之啦
現實就如小弟上文所言0既一樣...

PS 利蘭集團當年係英國私人集團,勿與倫敦運輸局攪亂了...

It does, in fact it was its privatisation which lead to Leyland's eventual
demise.

Like many of the nationalised enterprise at that time, British Leyland
was privatised under the direction of the Margaret Thatcher leaded
Conservative Government. Initially, Leyland was bought by its own
management, but the owner never make any seriously consideration
to retain Leyland as an entity on its own, but spent much of the time
seeking a buyer. It ended up with Volvo buying the Leyland's bus
business in 1988, and the rest is history.

Another consequence worth noting is at that time, MCW's owner
(cannot recall its name) made a bid to purchase Leyland. With Leyland
went to Volvo's ownership, MCW was deemed not capable to survive
the market. As a result, MCW pulled out of bus manufacturing in 1989.

Whilst Leyland and London Transport has very close supplier-customer
relationship, their respective privatisations has absolutely nothing to do
with it. Leyland's privatisation happened as a result of political reasons,
and London Transport never get privatised - its bus operation got paritally
deregulated in 1985 through the introduction of competitive tendering,
and its bus operation did not start getting privatised until 1992, when
London Coaches (part of the business now survive as Arriva The Original
Tour) was sold.

It must also be noted that Leyland's development of the Atlantean has
absolutely nothing to do with London. Development of the Atlantean can
be traced back to 1954, at the time which LT was fully commited to the
development of Routemaster. When the Atlantean was put into production
in 1959, what did LT end up buying? 2760 Routemasters. In any case, the
only Atlanteans in LT ownership were a batch of 50 XA-class PDR1s bought
for evaluation along with 8 XF-class Fleetlines in 1966, and it did not take
them long to dispose the whole fleet to CMB.

LT's decision to buy the DMS Fleetline was a result of the evaluation, which
the Fleetline emerged as a (relatively) more suitable vehicle. As we all know,
it ended up all wrong and much of the DMS fleet is quickly disposed off, and,
replaced by new Titans, Metrobuses and, ironically, Routemasters.

Finally, another point to note is that the only rear engine bus designed under
London Transport's request was the rear engine Routemaster FRM1. As AEC
was brought under the nationalised Leyland's umbrella, it did not go further
after the only example was built. Even the Leyland Titan, very much regarded
as a Routemaster decendence, was only designed with London in mind, with
substantial design input from LT engineers (and making it much too advanced
at that time to anyone's liking). It was to be a double deck equivalent of the
successful National single decker, but as we all know, the Titan went nowhere
near the National achieved.
