The UK's biggest bus builder, Alexander Dennis, says 260 jobs are at risk at
its Falkirk base due to lack of demand.

So i guess building 72 deckers for route 38 might do a little help to the industry, at least...... |

I read a thread here that this company charged higher prices for body kits on Volvo chassis then their own chassis, so certain company's order went to their competitor.
If so, they deserve. |

Obviously Wright is the better partner of Volvo buses in recent years.
Optare is the next in queue. |

For ADL, no, as they only got 18 of the order. The balance (62 vehicles) all went to Wrightbus. |

I have read this before. In fact they do that on Scanias as well. If you consider how many Volvos and DAFs they built in the first half of 2000s, and then compare to what they are building now, it is very easy to see the impact.
But at the end of the day, the double decker market now only process a relatively small portion of the busbuilding market anyway. When you look at the products that Falkirk builds:
E500: The order has not been coming as much as in the days of Dragons and Tridents. The North Amercian market seem to have stalled, and in the Far East they are not getting as many orders as they used to. And the production line in China doesn't help Falkirk either.
E400: The London market, which the E400 was so strong in the last couple of years, have been under increasing pressure from Wrightbus and Volvo. Outside London, their only reliable major customer is Stagecoach, as the rest are either buying Volvos/Scanias, or not buying at all under the current state of the economy.
E300: It never really set the world on fire, and orders only dribble in as it fails to compete against heavier competitors. Stagecoach, again, is their only reliable customer - and most of them are built on MAN chassis anyway (not a concern of Falkirk - which build bodyworks).
E200Dart: It's selling, but probably not as well as ADL would have liked. It certainly is doing well enough in London, a market which its predecessor dominated. Outside London, it is a different story - many operators now tends to order larger (which Volvo, Scanias and even Evobus are favoured), or smaller single deckers (which the Solos have the edge) to fulfill their fleet requirements. Although in theory, the E200Dart range should cover both ends of the market as well, but the reality is those versions are not competing, and what's left, the 10.1m and 10.7m versions, sit in the middle without much interest left to them.
So although ADL is technically the largest busbuilder in Britain, which makes its future sound secure, the reality is all along its product range it is facing severe challenges from competitors in and outside Britain. |

That's new, as I said the order encompasses 62 Gemini 2 DLs and 18 E400s. |
