Maybe, but then the shipping cost to bring the chassis and kits up to China, and then ship the buses back also incur a cost, which may not be as cheap as you think.
I wouldn't even think these B9TL would be cheaper than the E500 at listed price, but the difference should not be massive. And in any case, with such a large order, Volvo could of course offer a competitive price as well - a very common practice is any manufacturing industry. |

Of course part of the set up cost will be covered under ongoing sales. That is part of the RoI, or Return of Investment.
To give you a bit of commercial knowledge, each product's price would take into account of it's direct production cost, and also indirect costs like overhead and non-recurring set up cost, under a projected breakeven point i.e. the quantity which they have to sell to recover the total investment cost and make an actual profit in the product's life.
Even if they passed that breakeven point, they will only knock the price down to a point where profit margin is deemed acceptable to the business. Unless you know certainly the ADL have passed that point, I don't think your claim can be substantiated. Put it this way, what kind of costs do you think ADL would have to incur to set up that production line in China anyway, you have any idea? |
