Although I see your point, but the flaw of that logic is these E200Darts should come as a 1-for-1 replacement to the outgoing AAs.
The way I'm think is, with KMB committed to a small fleet of ASBs, I don't see what the 10.4m E200Dart could bring to the fleet. Getting the smaller E200Darts will hit two birds in one stone - Replacing the AMs and make the fleet a bit more versatile. At the end of the day, a 9.5m E200Dart is not much lower, capacity wise, than the 10.4m version. (we will be talking about 5-8 less in total) And be honest, I don't see a need of 2 doors in a 9m bus - AMs and AA1/2 can live without that anyway.
Before anyone starts jumping on the guns and denounce me as a E200Dart detractor, I need to say this - I simply don't think KMB should have got the ASBs in the first place. Its chassis is simply unsuitable to be shorted to that size, and you can tell from ASB's woeful layout. KMB thought they were clever to standardise on the K230UB on the 12m and 10.6m requirements, but they aren't. They should have gone for the E200Dart or, if they really want Scanias, the N230UB for those 20 buses in the first place.
And now, what they are ending up is 2 types of overlapping size. Instead of consolidating the fleet, they are making it unnecessarily diversed and, cost-wise, inefficient.

其實雙門版雖然少左低地台座位,但同時提供更多企位(情況有如水塘位),
尤其而家用Outswinging Plugs,所以雙門版同單門版總載客量分別應該唔係o甘大。

所以小弟反而認為九巴會先改裝低地台Dart行走51線。

M81-88 無早退,只係換返吉拿
再改裝批較舊既M仔上山...

其實而家批AA亦唔見有早退...
但係批低地台Dart既表現不敢恭維
E200亦未必能應付211既客量... |

AM共184部,AA non-SLF共48部,AN共24部
Total=256
KMB SLF 單層新車,
AA SLF共22部,ASB共20部,ASC/ASCU共30部,AVC共訂70部,E200共訂30部,
Total=172 only
*256-172=84
九巴近了轉左咁多線行單層,
似乎有再加訂單層必要,
唔知大家點睇?

都有行單層,呢度都用左好幾十部車。
