It's the Malaysian KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) railway from Tanjong Pagar Station in Singapore to various parts of Peninsular Malaysia. This time I took a 'shuttle train' at S$3 (HK$18) to the newly opened Johor Bahru Sentral station, just below the Malaysian Immigration building. Other trains do serve Johor Bahru (JB), but are much more expensive even for the same second class seats some of the shuttle trains uses.

This train service will end in a few months time as the train station will be moved to Woodlands (by then most people will go to JB Sentral to pay less for the tickets ).

Waiting for the gate to open. Passengers need to clear Malaysian immigration first before clearing Singapore immigration in Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

Here comes our train. The generation looks like just hooked onto the chassis.


The very old looking Economy Plus carriage


Interior of the Hyundai Second Class carriage. Very few people seated on the carriage, as the seats are not adjustable.

The other two carriages are Economy Plus carriage. One did not have aircon at all. But luckily passengers are very few.


Adjustable seats looks old but had very good adjustment and legroom.


Train arrived JB Sentral at 7:55pm, despite a 15 minute delay (departed 7:05pm instead of 6:50pm), including time to clear Singapore immigration.

古舊的列車停在簇新的車站,感覺頗奇怪。

你沒去過大陸啦。
在大陸的武漢高鐵站,可以看到綠皮車停在新建的車站裏,見慣不怪。

無辦法啦,這20多年來火車的投資太少啦。當年無高速公路,現在有太多有平又快又舒服的高速巴士競爭,又有廉航。火車都是做小鎮及過夜的服務。 (很多火車經過的地方手機都無signal的)。

今時今日大部分西馬的火車都是單軌的。

看時間啦。繁忙時間都是好像10多年前羅湖'打蛇餅'一樣多人,又要塞人又塞車。

不過有時會好快的。路上無塞車,但是check唔到有無塞人。 。 。 。 。

No such plans for now after the bid by a private consortium was rejected, but there was no further mention of it during the recent meetings between the two governments, which mainly discussed on selling the railway land in Singapore.

Also, the Malaysian government is now concentrating on the MRT project for KL.

However, a high-speed rail between KL and JB may materialise, as there is no need for a new bridge and cooperation with the Singapore government. And it's not really a big difference between having it in JB Sentral and Woodlands, as compared to Tanjong Pagar, which is right in the city.

想問一下, 由新加坡坐到新山, 火車滿不滿, 去到火車站才買票應該可以吧?

如果要預訂火車票, 在網上能辦理嗎? 如有, 網址在哪, 程序如何?
