由三月國泰訂購 15 x A333 + 10 x 77W + 2 x A359 開始, 新聞一直都有指國泰與飛機製造商商討再引入十四架客機. 但當時未有透露有關機型. 而某大討論區近日指國泰已經向波音再訂購 14 部 77W (即國泰機隊最終會有 60 部 77W). 而國泰之前都有放風指 744 將會退役. 相信 60 部 77W + 佢新訂 o既 32 部 A359 足以取代現時所有 744 及 343 ~

Meanwhile, Aspire Aviation has learned that Cathay Pacific will sign a contract with Chicago-based airframer Boeing to purchase 14 additional 777-300ERs in May, bringing the total of 777-300ERs on order and operated by Cathay to 60.

well...replacing 744 with 77w only will mean more flights and hence more congestion even if passenger numbers remain constant. that means passenger growth will be even more constrained especially with the uncertainty of whether we will have the 3rd runway for hkia. has cx considered this?

I believe Cathay has been considered if HKIA could not be extend in the future already. For my opinion, I do not feel this is a major concern for Cathay. (HX also has 100+ new aircraft orders as well). Ordering Aircrafts is a long term investment. Manufacturers cannot provide a new plane immediately after the airline companies purchase too. Cathay (even Hong Kong Airlines) should be considered carefully, especially the mainland China market will become more importance in the future. If they don't do it, perhaps they will face the problem happening in Taiwan based companies now in the future. (CI and Eva do not have enough aircrafts for direct cross-strait routes. Hence they are cutting off the long-haul routes and leased the aircrafts from another company, e.g. CI - VS (A330)) ~

i mean that cx should consider getting very large a/cs like a380 to get more pax in less flights...

Rumor said that they are looking for A380-900 since A388 does not have much space for Cargo ~
Actually, Cathay wants to add more frequency since it can convenience for transfer passengers ~

but routes to LHR cannot be added easily..
a larger aircraft would be essential..

Normally, CX need large aircrafts like A389 to handle the demand of increasing pax. However, CX focus is not on the number of Y class pax carried. Their main focus is business class and first class pax. CX can reduce the number of Y class space to get more seats in business class and first class. Overall speaking, this might is a profitable way for CX.

SCMP reported that Cathay will introduce Y+ next year ~
