That would definitely be great for the Australian Economy, however, Goninan's technology is no where near Kinki-Sharyo. The SP1900s are probably one of the best-built metro trains in the world.
Like a few boardmates have pointed out, it would probably be most cost-efficient and ideal to acquire brand new rollingstock to replace the MLRs for KCRC, when you think about it, they have been around for 2 decades.
As for MTRC, they seem to be pretty happy with the ROTEMs due to the $$ factor, but you never know, they might decide to launch a tender and have different companies bid for their rollingstock replacement. What is the designed life-cycle for the M-trains, like 30 years? 40 years? They probably weren't originally designed with handling the workload that they have to handle these days... |

I agree.
The refurbishment work of MLR has completed just a few years,
but judging from their performance and interior, I don't think they look like refurbished at all.
In some ways they perform worse than before refurbishment!
(e.g. cabin vibrations, carriage-joint "earthquakes")
That's not the train's fault, the problem is the "unrealistic ambition"
to increase the load indefinitely onto these middle-aged trains.
They were designed to be "suburban trains", not "metro trains", but they are playing the role as metro trains.
For the M-trains of MTR, it's a bit better, probably because they were designed to be metro trains,
and they can withstand the frequent startings and stoppings, doors banging and every square inch crowded with people.
I support KCRC continuing to buy new trains from reliable companies in the future,
even if it's a bit expensive and requires me to give some of the money.
K-train is not the best, but I believe Rotem will improve with more experiences,
so I have no opinion on the future of MTR trains. |
