Use the foot, because most US transit bus radio talky is actually a phone speaker, therefore, they need one hand on the wheel, one on the phone, and the left foot will do the turn signal, left butt ...

So why they need the radio for?
Radio is not really need to be used frequently.

Also Hand Held phone, including that phone style radio, when driving, is illegal in many places, why they want the drives do such dangerous thing?

我見過司機用無線電兩次

第一次係大遊行，警察臨時封路
司機用radio去總台報告番改班次

第二次係同friend遊河
司機用無線電問總台用student ID可唔可以唔畀錢

Because US have no laws banning government vehicle using hand held device, btw: handsfree is not popular in the state, yes it might be strange to see, but this has been the custom of transit agency for like 20 years.

Regarding on Radio phone, they are link to call center, (for example, METRO King County's call center is located at the exchange building, the radio also link to the Metro Traffic control of Columbia tower's 64th floor, the department of transportation, the Seattle Police department, and the department of homeland security.

In most US metropolitian cities, transit agency also oversees the security, route changes, allocation of transit/city police for bus route, moniter traffic condition.  and also, the radio is also act as a device to pin point where the driver is and whether or not the driver is underspeed, or overspeed.  and also to use for allocation of extra buses at traffic hours in order to keep the bus ontime.  In fact, King County Metro tolerance level for delay is usually less then 5 minutes.

In the drivers guild of King County Metro, drivers are responsible to report their location, passenger numbers, fuel amounts every 20 minutes, or when there's a system wide notice to report to the call center staff.

九巴有輪椅位，又想樓梯對正中門

Will that also because of the location of the Gas tank, i think it might be locate right behind the right front wheel, as the US version gas filler is right above the right front wheel.
